Fundraising Story: Skydiving over Gower for Neath Foodbank

9th November 2023

This autumn I took a leap for charity (literally!) by doing a sponsored skydive to support Neath Foodbank.

Why a skydive? Well, I’ve always loved doing things that scare me, to push myself out of my comfort zone and boost my confidence – it’s useful to be reminded of what you’re capable of, and experience things you never thought possible. A skydive from 10,000ft represented a huge step outside my comfort zone as someone who’s scared of heights, but I hoped that the challenge would inspire people to donate in support.

The jump itself was over the Gower Peninsula on 3rd September, on the sunniest day Swansea had seen all summer, so it was perfect flying conditions. The scariest part was at 10,000ft sitting on the airplane floor with my feet out the door, nothing but sky beneath me – but once I was out, it was a completely breathtaking and exhilarating experience, and one of the best things I’ve ever done.

I’m delighted to have raised £650 in total, which will help the foodbank manage their essential costs and supply food parcels to those facing food poverty in Neath. Thank you so much to everyone who donated so generously.

If you’re feeling like you want to give back to a cause that’s important to you, we encourage you to go for it! Whether it’s a solo effort or you want to get a group fundraiser going, know that it’s totally doable, and doesn’t have to be anything as silly as jumping out of a plane – any and all activities can make an impact in our communities for those who need it most.
